BULDose is the first Bulgarian dose management system (DMS) that was developed within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supported National TC Project BUL9026 – Enhancing National Capacity for Ensuring Radiation Protection of Patients Undergoing High Dose Medical Imaging Procedures. The purpose of BULDose is to facilitate patient radiation dose management, quality assurance and optimization in medical imaging.
The system supports automatically monitoring of all radiological examinations in a given department or hospital. It is able to collect automatically and to facilitate the data evaluation regarding patient dose related parameters, patient demographics, and other types of data.
Dose management systems are considered as an essential tool for ensuring regulatory compliance and for improving the efficiency of quality assurance programs.
The Software is part of SC PACS Suite.

BULDose a web-based application designed for:

  • Registration, recording and tracking of patient exposures from medical examinations using methods with ionizing radiation.
  • Daily monitoring of patient radiation exposure, clinical image quality, frequency of examinations, and workload of departments and medical facilities.
  • Preparation and export of detailed reports with information about patient medical exposures for various studies involving the use of ionizing radiation, as well as the study-specific exposure parameters used.

The Software collects data in Radiation Dose Structured Report(RDSR) format or DICOM format from PACS or directly from imaging modalities. Supported imaging modalities are Computed tomography (CT), Interventional radiology, Nuclear medicine (PET), Nuclear medicine (SPECT), Radiography, Fluoroscopy and Mammography. The Software works as a separate DICOM hospital network node and communicates with other DICOM devices by accepting communication using DICOM Store Service Class Provider (SCP) according to the DICOM 3.0 Standard
